Emilie Boutin Therapy & Counseling

From the outside, everything may seem fine. Or you may think that you should feel fine but you don’t. Not really.

You understand yourself.

But something still doesn’t shift.

Your mind knows.

Your body responds differently.

I help you create change that goes deeper than insight.

I’m Emilie Boutin

A therapist specializing in anxiety, emotional regulation, and trauma

My work integrates neuroscience, body awareness, and evidence-based approaches to help you create meaningful, lasting shifts in how you experience your life.

You might notice:

  • Thoughts that don’t slow down
  • Emotions that feel bigger than the moment
  • Reactions and behaviors you wish you could control
  • A sense of being disconnected from yourself or from your own life

You’ve tried to make sense of it.

And yet, it remains.

A Different Approach

Most people try to think their way out. But lasting change doesn’t come from insight alone.

It comes from understanding how your system works, and learning how to work with it.

What I Help You Do

  • Make sense of what you feel
  • Understand your internal patterns
  • Respond differently, not just react
  • Feel more grounded, clear, and in control

This is where understanding becomes change.

“When we begin to understand the wounded parts of ourselves, and learn to care for them with the compassion they always needed, something shifts. We no longer move through life from old survival patterns, we begin to live from a place of worth, choice, and authenticity.”

About Me

I’m Emilie, a UAE-licensed Psychotherapist and Clinical Social Worker in the UAE, with over 15 years of experience working with individuals across a wide range of life experiences.

Emilie Boutin

From a very young age, I became aware that I had thoughts and feelings I needed to make sense of.

There was a depth to my inner world that I didn’t always know how to process on my own. And I found myself searching, for someone who could offer a space that felt safe, non-judgmental, and real.

A space where I didn’t have to filter, perform, or explain myself perfectly.

Just a place where I could be.

Over time, it became clear to me that this is what many of us sometimes need in order to learn about ourselves and break free from what no longer serves us.

That realization shaped the direction of my work, which has become my passion and my purpose.

Experience & Education

Born and raised in Canada, I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Clinical Social Work and began my career as a counselor at a women’s shelter. I later joined an organization specializing in mental health, as a therapist to children, adolescents, and families.

I then joined the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario as a social worker, an experience that further shaped my clinical approach and deepened my understanding of complex emotional and relational dynamics. In 2017, this path led me to Sidra Medicine in Qatar, where I spent five meaningful years working within a multidisciplinary setting in a multi-cultural environment.

Following this, I moved to Dubai to join a highly reputable clinic, where I continued to develop my work in individual counseling and psychotherapy, while collaborating with skilled professionals committed to high standards of care.

In 2024, I founded my own private practice, an important step that allows me to offer a more personalized and integrative approach. More recently, I’ve had the pleasure of joining Antakaya Clinic’s team and I now work with clients based in Dubai, Canada and Europe.

The Way I Work

My intention is to offer what I believe people need at their core: a space where you can be fully yourself, without pressure, without judgment, and without having to hold everything together.

A space where you can:

  • Understand yourself more deeply
  • Reconnect with who you are beneath patterns and adaptations
  • Let go of what is no longer serving you
  • Move toward a way of being that feels more aligned and authentic

Beyond Understanding

For many years, my work was rooted in talk therapy.

And it is a meaningful part of the process, helping you make sense of your experiences, gain insight, and bring clarity to what feels confusing.

But over time, through continued training and a deep curiosity to better support my clients, I began to notice its limits.

Because some patterns don’t shift through insight alone. Because so many of us rationally “know better” and can’t make the changes we want and need.

And that is because some experiences, especially those that are emotionally charged or rooted in the past, are not only stored in thoughts, but within the nervous system and the body. And in the subconscious. And talk therapy doesn't always reach that level, unfortunately.

A Deeper Approach

This led me to explore neuroscience, somatic work, and approaches that go beyond talking.

I came to understand how certain memories and experiences are not always fully processed, and how they can continue to shape how we feel, react, and relate, often outside of our awareness.

This is where approaches such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) come in. EMDR is a well-researched, effective therapy that helps the brain process and integrate these experiences, so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity or influence.

By integrating EMDR, somatic awareness, and parts-based work, we are able to work at a deeper level, where lasting change becomes possible.

A Tailored and Collaborative Process

No two people are the same.

Which is why I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Our work together is adapted to your needs, your pace, and what you’re ready for.

At times, we may use conversation to explore and understand.

At others, we may work more directly with emotional or body-based processes. Or move straight to trauma reprocessing with EMDR.

What matters is that the approach fits you.

A Space to Begin

You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting. You don’t need to know exactly what to say. You’re welcome to come as you are. And from there, we begin.

Work with Me

Therapy here is not only about understanding – it’s about creating real change in how you feel, respond, and live.

Counseling

Counseling offers a space to talk through what you’re currently experiencing and receive support in navigating life’s challenges.

You may come with something specific in mind, such as stress, a difficult situation, or a period of change, or simply a sense that something feels off.

In our work together, we focus on understanding what’s happening for you in the present, gaining clarity, and finding ways to move forward with more ease and perspective.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a deeper process that explores the underlying patterns shaping how you feel, respond, and relate.

Together, we look beyond the surface to understand the emotional experiences and internal dynamics that may be contributing to what feels stuck or repetitive.

This work allows for meaningful and lasting change, not just in how you think, but in how you experience yourself, your emotions, and your relationships.

Starting therapy doesn’t require certainty. Only a willingness to begin.

Common Questions

Expertise

My Expertise

Trauma Treatment

Small and big trauma can shape how you feel, respond, and relate, often in ways that persist long after the original experiences. I offer trauma-informed therapy, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidence-based approach that helps the brain process and integrate unresolved experiences. This work allows emotional intensity to settle, so past events no longer feel as present or impactful in your day-to-day life.

Anxiety & Stress

Anxiety and stress can show up in many ways, constant overthinking, physical tension, difficulty switching off, or a sense of unease even when things seem “fine.” Together, we work to understand what’s driving these responses and help your system move toward a greater sense of calm, clarity, and balance.

Relational Patterns & Difficulties

Relationships can bring up some of our deepest patterns, how we connect, communicate, and respond to closeness or distance. You may notice recurring dynamics, challenges with boundaries, or difficulty expressing your needs. Therapy offers a space to understand these patterns and begin relating in ways that feel more aligned and fulfilling.

Feeling Stuck, Limiting Beliefs & Repeating Patterns

At times, you may feel stuck in ways that are difficult to explain, repeating the same experiences, holding onto beliefs that limit you, or struggling to move forward despite your efforts. Together, we explore the underlying layers of these patterns, creating space for greater flexibility, self-understanding, and change.

But also...

  • Depression
  • Stress and panic
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Life transitions
  • Procrastination and worry
  • Self doubt and self criticism
  • Post traumatic stress disorder
  • Interpersonal and relationship challenges

Therapeutic Approaches

My work integrates different therapeutic approaches, allowing us to work both at the level of understanding and at a deeper level where lasting change can take place.

Each approach offers a different way of supporting you. Together, they create a flexible and tailored process, adapted to your needs.
